進一步分為四級(0-1罐、2-4罐、5-7罐、14罐或以上)所得到的結果相當明顯,隨著過去一週喝汽水的量越多,出現暴力行為以及攜帶刀槍的比例也隨之上昇。如果把每週喝0-1罐汽水的孩子,跟每週喝14罐或以上的孩子相比,每週喝14罐或以上的汽水的孩子,過去一年曾攜帶刀槍的比例高出20%(43% vs. 23%),過去一年曾有暴力行為的高出12%(27% vs. 15%);其中對同學或朋友施暴的比例高出23%(58% vs. 35%),對兄弟姊妹施暴的比例高出18%(43% vs. 25.4%)。
不管是大型電腦或個人電腦都需具有「中央處理單元」(central process unit,簡稱 CPU)。CPU 是電腦的「腦」,其電子電路負責處理所有軟體正確運作所需的所有任務,如算術、邏輯、控制、輸入和輸出操作等等。雖然早期的設計即可以讓一個指令同時做兩、三件不同的工作;但為了簡單化,我們在這裡所談的工作將只是執行算術和邏輯運算的工作(arithmetic and logic unit,簡稱 ALU),如將兩個數加在一起。在這一簡化的定義下,CPU 在任何一個時刻均只能執行一件工作而已。

在個人電腦剛出現只能用於一般事物的處理時,CPU 均能非常勝任地完成任務。但電腦圖形和動畫的出現帶來了第一批運算密集型工作負載後,CPU 開始顯示心有餘而力不足:例如電玩動畫需要應用程式處理數以萬計的像素(pixel),每個像素都有自己的顏色、光強度、和運動等, 使得 CPU 根本沒辦法在短時間內完成這些工作。於是出現了主機板上之「顯示插卡」來支援補助 CPU。
在一對染色體中相對位置上的基因,就像並排的兩列火車,A 火車第三節車廂與 B 火車第三節車廂位置是一樣的,他們之間的關係也是決定基因表現的原因之一。這兩個基因便是大家聽過「等位基因」。它們造成的結果一如生物課本上大家都看過的例子:只考慮遺傳因素的情況下,若紅花是顯性基因,白花是隱性基因,且這個性狀是半顯性遺傳,那同時有顯性跟隱性基因的植物就會開出粉紅色的花。
