根據2009年台灣大學地理系孫志鴻教授、榮峻德博士的研究《臺灣環境監測總系統》,台灣目前已有多次參加預備會議及研討會的經驗,學界抓緊腳步參考GEOSS之架構,提出「台灣環境監測總系統」(Taiwan Environmental Observation System of Systems,TEOSS)計畫,將結合政府單位、學術界及民間企業的力量,發展地理空間資訊科技、無線感測網,共同建立災害預警系統,提升台灣防災實力。
