目前 IPCC 已經出版了五次評估報告,大約每五到七年推出一次,對氣候變遷的現況進行評估,提供世人最新的科學進展。其內容包含四大冊,前三冊各由一個工作組負責,第一工作組(Working Group I, WG I)主責關於氣候變遷的科學基礎;第二工作組(WG II)主責分析生態與人文系統受到氣候變遷的影響與衝擊、以及不同群體面對氣候變遷的脆弱度與調適方法;而第三工作組(WG III)則評估減緩氣候變遷的各式方案。第四冊為綜合報告(Synthesis Report),除了統整了前三冊內容,也特別採用較平易的用詞方式,給決策者更多幫助。
