不過維勒的研究方向還是在無機化學上,他陸續分離出鋁、鈹、釔、硼等元素,一生孜孜不倦,至死方休,發表的論文多達 276 篇。另外在有機化學方面,他與小他三歲,後來有「德國化學之父」、「肥料工業之父」的李比希(Justus von Liebig)密切合作,得到許多重要的發現;雖然光芒都照在李比希身上,他仍甘之如飴。他們兩人不但是一生的摯友,更成為科學史上難得一見真誠無私的搭檔。
