抗糖尿病藥物是怎麼降低罹患癌症的風險,其中的機制又是如何?
這項研究近日發表於《癌症預防研究(Cancer Prevention Research)》。加拿大麥吉爾大學(McGill University)和蒙特婁大學(University of Montreal)的研究人員發表一個意外的發現:他們獲悉接觸得利糖減少了細胞突變的比率及DNA損傷的累積。已知這種突變是直接參與致癌作用(carcinogenesis)的,但透過抑制突變率來降低罹患癌症風險從未被證明是可行的。
職為麥吉爾大學醫學及腫瘤學系教授,猶太綜合醫院(Jewish General Hospital)的戴維斯夫人醫學研究中心(Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research)研究員的計畫主持人Michael Pollak醫師表示,「值得注意的是,得利糖是一種便宜的、專利期失效、安全且廣泛使用的藥物,它有數個生物作用可能會減少癌症的風險。這些最新的研究結果顯示,它減少了身體細胞(somatic cells)的突變率,提供一種附加的機制來預防癌症。」
